Nobody buys a sublimation print – they buy a mug, a rock, a jersey with their name in it. Blanks are half your product and half your quality: the same print on a premium coated mug pops glossy for years, and on a cheap coating turns dull after three washes of the sink. This guide lists every blank that matters in India with 2026 rates, the coating-quality rules that separate gift shops from gift graveyards, and honest notes on what sublimation cannot print. All figures are estimates (est.).

Coating Quality – The Rule Behind Every Good Print
Sublimation ink bonds with polymer, so the coating on the blank decides your product’s life. Grade-A coatings give full colour pop and survive dish-washing cycles; grade-B coatings accept the print but fade fast and patch in humid storage. Three working rules: buy a test lot of ten before any bulk carton and print the same photo on all ten – dull or patchy results reject the lot, not your printer; ask vendors for the coating grade in writing, because no honest vendor hesitates and every dishonest one changes the subject; store blanks dry and wrapped – polyester and coatings pick up moisture in monsoon weeks, and moisture under the press causes the faded patches customers call about.
Sourcing Economics (est.)
| Purchase Size | Price Effect (est.) |
|---|---|
| Retail singles, 1-10 pieces | Full rate card above |
| Small bulk, 50-100 pieces | 10-20% cheaper per piece |
| Carton lots, 100-500 pieces | 20-35% cheaper – the working wholesale band |
| Direct importer rates, 1,000 plus | 35-45% cheaper, dead-stock risk included |
Buy your top-five movers at carton rates and slow movers at small-bulk – the mug you sell daily deserves inventory, the tile you sell twice a month does not. Product-line inspiration beyond gifts lives in our agency gifting and merch division guide, and the machine printing all of it sits on our sublimation printer product page.
Blanks That Fail – Honest List
Cotton garments: sublimation ink has nothing to bond with on cotton – the print washes away in the first laundry cycle, and every vendor claiming otherwise is selling a workaround, not a solution (cotton garment work belongs to DTF – see our DTF printers lane). Dark-coloured blanks: sublimation ink is effectively transparent on press, so dark bases swallow the design – light and white only. Uncoated ceramics and metals: the print transfers, looks acceptable for a week, then rubs off with normal handling. Knowing this list is what separates a gift unit with five-star reviews from one buried under refund requests.
Our Verdict
Stock the top-five movers at carton rates, test every new lot with one photo before bulk, and never let cotton or dark blanks into the catalogue – those three rules are the entire blanks game. Print all of it on our sublimation printer product page, ink economics in the sublimation ink price guide, and when you are ready to sell beyond retail counters, the gifting division playbook in the agency gifting and merch division guide has the corporate pitch.
FAQs – Sublimation Blanks Guide: Types and Rates India
What are sublimation blanks?
Blanks are ready-to-print products carrying either a polyester base or a special polymer coating – mugs, sipper bottles, cushion covers, photo rocks, metal panels, tiles, keychains, phone cases, mouse pads and polyester garments. Sublimation ink bonds only with polyester or these coatings.
What is the wholesale price of sublimation mugs in India?
White 11 oz sublimation mugs cost Rs 25-45 per piece at carton rates (est.); magic colour-changing mugs run Rs 60-120. Printed mugs sell at Rs 250-550 retail, which is why mugs remain the entry product of nearly every sublimation unit.
Can I sublimate on cotton t-shirts?
No – sublimation ink has no polymer to bond with on cotton and washes out in the first laundry. Use 100% polyester white or light tees for sublimation; for cotton garments, DTF printing is the correct technology.
Where can I buy sublimation blanks in India?
Wholesale blank vendors in every metro’s printing-material market, pan-India blank wholesalers online, and direct importers for 1,000-plus lots. Rule regardless of source: print a ten-piece test lot with one reference photo before committing to any bulk carton.
Why do my sublimation prints look dull on some blanks?
Usually the blank, not the printer: grade-B coatings accept ink but show dull, patchy colour, and humid-stored blanks release moisture under the press causing faded spots. Buy coating grade in writing, store blanks dry, and test every new lot before bulk use.
